2018 Dark Ale / Porter / Stout Club Competition

Big thanks to all who entered, poured, delivered, and tasted at the Dark Ale Competition last night.  It was a lot of fun, and we got to taste a few styles that maybe were not so familiar to all of us (e.g., I haven’t had many tropical stouts!).

Congratulations to the winners:

  • 1st Place – Alex Hartlaub – Tropical Stout
  • 2nd Place – David Taylor – “Oatmeal” Stout
  • 3rd Place – Dean Wiensch – English Porter
  • 4th Runner Up – Brian Lesperance – Foreign Extra Stout
  • 5th Place – Left Hand Milk Stout (yeah, the real commercial stuff!)

…which just goes to show, time and time again…. we can and often do brew as good or better beers at home as do the big microbrewers.  Well done all, they were all very tasty beers and it was amazing to experience all these different flavors side by side.

And here is Alex’s winning recipe – Enjoy!
